In my current position as a diagnostic radiographer, I perform all the routine studies and emergency radiological investigations in our department. I am responsible for the welfare and comfort of patients by maintaining high standards in all areas of the radiology department. Here I am taking 8 hours duty per day on a shift basis. I am working under the supervision of Radiology manager and Superintendent of the hospital. Working as part of team to ensure effective communication and delivery of care.
I check the patient identification and documentation, and ensure the appropriate radiographic examinations are carried out in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests. Evaluate patient's medical condition and history to determine effective radiographic techniques for diagnostic accuracy. I assist my senior radiographers, Radiologists and other Doctors when they perform specialized examinations. Evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality, and alert clinicians of any abnormality when appropriate.
Help patients with transfers from trolleys, beds and chairs to examination tables daily. I take part with my Radiology team in managing the workload efficiently and safely and I am actively involved in risk assessment within the department. Proactively participate in the quality assurance programme to ensure the efficiency of the equipment.
I am involved in strategies to improve service quality within Radiology including participation in the
appraisal process, and by interacting with the Hospital Incident Reporting System. Maintain knowledge of technological and technical advances in methods of diagnostic imaging in order to promote a culture of continuous improvement within the department. As a key radiographer, I am actively involved in the training and assessment of student radiographers on clinical placement, providing direct supervision at all times.
Most often answer to inquiry calls regarding the various diagnostic investigations in the department. Participate in the fire and safety, infection control, MR safety classes. I am responsible for activating the emergency codes (Code Red, Code Blue, Code pink etc) in emergency circumstances in the hospital.
I am delivering each Radiodiagnosis examination by following the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) recommendations and other radiation safety guidelines. Completing every radiographic investigations on time by using proper time management. Explain to patients and bystanders the details of a procedure and ways to manage the side effects of ionizing radiation.
I keep the patient information very confidential and uses the departmental computerized patient information system efficiently and comply with the Data Protection Act. I am ensuring the accurate data entry into Radiology Information System (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Hospital Information System (HIS). Support patients equal and diversity rights in all aspects. I take the responsibility to protect and safeguard children, woman and vulnerable adults.
Maintains good departmental hygiene and equipment cleanliness. Regularly inspect and check the diagnostic machines to ensure they are functioning properly. Report any malfunction or breakdown of any imaging equipment to the Radiology manager. Safely utilise all resources for the maximum benefit of the service and to assist in the maintenance of stock levels. |

2.
